Montrose Elks Civic Building
107 S. Cascade Ave., Montrose CO, 2004-2005
Architect of Record: Andrews and Anderson Architects, P.C.
Adaptive reuse of this circa 1926 Elks Building gave it a new life as city offices and City Council Chambers for the city of Montrose. Challenges included updating the building to meet current building and accessibility codes, complete redesign of the interior space, and restoration of the building’s original architectural elements. Geothermal energy was introduced as the primary source of heating the building. While employed by one of Colorado’s top historic preservation architects, Andrews and Anderson Architects, Karen was involved in recording and drafting existing conditions, schematic design and design development of this project.
