Hailing from the Front Range and now looking to spend more time in the mountains while they continue their careers, the owner couple have designed their home to be a peaceful, meditative retreat—one that allows them to unplug and reconnect with each other and their family.

Located at the end of a subdivision road, at the base of Whetstone Mountain, the property offers privacy, solitude, and access to shared mountain trails right from the back door.

The distinctive linear layout gently ascends with the natural slope of the landscape, guiding users from public to private spaces. Upon entering, you move along a light-filled, double-loaded corridor. A dramatic framed opening to the left invites you into the spacious living area. This gathering space is oriented towards an open meadow to the south, framed by stands of aspen and evergreen trees. Beyond the trees, you can see the peaks, valleys, rock faces, and avalanche paths of Whetstone Mountain.

The private primary bedroom suite is positioned at the top of the home, offering panoramic views in three directions.

A home office provides not only a private workspace, it will also house an extensive collection of LPs and serve as a dedicated listening room. This office space flows seamlessly to the outdoors, where a work patio offers expansive northern views and the soothing sounds of the forest. A cozy meditation room further enhances the home’s tranquil atmosphere.

This compact, all-electric, and highly efficient home uses two air-to-water heat source pumps, eliminating the need for a boiler. A separate storage outbuilding houses the roof-mounted photovoltaic array, adjacent to the garage.

The home’s low profile and combination of exterior materials visually assimilate it into its natural surroundings. Light colored glulam posts and beams interweave with dark brown stained cedar siding. Light grey and buff stone columns, along with low stone walls, anchor the home to the site and define the outdoor spaces.

The structural system, featuring double columns and supporting beams, allows for continuous expanses of glazing in the gathering spaces, a design element that is reiterated throughout the home, unifying the overall aesthetic.
