Previously a storage shed and then a home base for winter sleigh rides, this small historic outbuilding dating from 1907 sits on the southwest corner of a property shared with the famous Slogar Restaurant on Second Street in Crested Butte. The owners’ vision was to rehabilitate the non-operational building and transform it into a modern, but cozy vacation rental in this highly coveted downtown location.
Working closely with the Board of Zoning and Architectural Review to adhere to the town’s historic preservation guidelines, the shell of the building was preserved to the extent possible, stabilizing the structure from the inside. Where there were existing rough openings, new windows and doors were added. The cabin’s kitchen and living area open onto the bedroom with rustic wood-clad barn doors.
